GM to pay $220 million to settle allegations it violated consumers’ privacy — Bottineau Community news

Oct 29 (Reuters) – General Motors will pay $220 million to settle allegations ‌that it illegally sold consumers’ private driver behavior data ‌and location information to third parties, Washington state’s attorney general said on Thursday. Washington Attorney General Nick Brown said the state co-led a coalition of 36 attorneys general in the ‌case against GM. He said recipients of the consumer data included brokers who sold the data ‌to insurers, which then used the ‌data in part to set insurance rates.
